Abstract

Systems and methods that integrate social media applications having social media communities of like-minded users with other applications, such as enterprise applications, are described herein. A user may join one or more of the social media communities based on a variety of factors, including applications the user uses or plans to use, user type (e.g., end-user, administrator, etc.), the user'"'"'s level of expertise, and/or the type of activities that the user plans to perform in one or more applications. A user'"'"'s actions within or using one or more applications may be monitored. In response to detecting performance of a monitored action, a description of the user'"'"'s action may be published to other users in the social media community, the user may be paired with one or more social media communities, and/or recommendations for resources related to the detected action may be provided to the user. Recommendations may also be provided based on posts made by the user in the social media community.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

monitoring actions performed by a user in an application;

retrieving from a database, in response to detecting a user action assigned a predefined identifier, at least one keyword associated with the predefined identifier;

generating, by a computing device, a textual description of the user action, wherein the textual description comprises the at least one keyword and an identifier for the user;

displaying the textual description comprising the at least one keyword and the identifier for the user in a discussion feed window of a social media community; and

adding the user to a second social media community corresponding to the user action assigned the predefined identifier.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the textual description of the user action further comprises one or more of the following:

a name of the application, a time of the detected user action, a link to request an online meeting with the user, or a link to send a private message to the user.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the second social media community comprises a plurality of users that have performed the user action assigned the predefined identifier.

4. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

initiating a monitoring client plug-in for the application, wherein the monitoring step is performed by the monitoring client plug-in.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

monitoring actions performed by the user in a plurality of applications; and

displaying, in the discussion feed window, a plurality of actions performed by the user in the plurality of applications.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein the plurality of applications includes at least one enterprise application.

7. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

generating, by the computing device, searches in one or more resources based on the predefined identifier; and

displaying results of the searches in a window of the social media community.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein generating the searches comprises generating one or more search strings based on a plurality of keywords associated with the predefined identifier, wherein the plurality of keywords includes the keyword displayed in the textual description.

17. The method of claim 1, wherein the monitoring comprises a monitoring client monitoring the actions performed by the user in the application by receiving data indicating the actions performed by the user via an Application Program Interface (API) of the application.

19. The method of claim 1, wherein detecting the user action comprises detecting a user selection to configure installation or upgrade, configure storage, configure networking, or create one or more virtual machines.

20. The method of claim 1, wherein the adding the user to the second social media community is performed in response to detecting the user action assigned the predefined identifier.

9. One or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing computer-readable instructions that, when executed by a computing device, configure the computing device to:

monitor actions performed by a user in an application;

retrieve from a database, in response to detecting a user action assigned a predefined identifier, at least one keyword associated with the predefined identifier;

generate a textual description of the user action, wherein the textual description comprises the at least one keyword and an identifier for the user;

display the textual description comprising the at least one keyword and the identifier for the user in a discussion feed window of a social media community; and

add the user to a second social media community corresponding to the user action assigned the predefined identifier.

10. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 9, wherein the textual description of the user action further comprises one or more of the following:

a name of the application, a time of the detected user action, a link to request an online meeting with the user, or a link to send a private message to the user.

11. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 9, wherein the second social media community comprises a plurality of users that have performed the user action assigned the predefined identifier.

12. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 9, storing additional computer-readable instructions that, when executed by the computing device, configure the computing device to:

generate searches in one or more resources based on the predefined identifier; and

display results of the searches in a window of the social media community.

13. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 12, wherein generating the searches comprises generating one or more search strings based on a plurality of keywords associated with the predefined identifier, wherein the plurality of keywords includes the keyword displayed in the textual description.

14. A method comprising:

monitoring, by a computing device, terms inputted by a user for display in a discussion feed window of a social media community;

responsive to a determination that at least one of the terms inputted by the user for display in the discussion feed window corresponds to at least one application activity stored in a data mapping table, generating a search in one or more resources based on the at least one application activity;

displaying results of the search in a window of the social media community;

displaying a textual description comprising at least one keyword associated with the at least one application activity and an identifier for the user in the discussion feed window of the social media community; and

adding the user to a second social media community corresponding to the at least one application activity.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein generating the search comprises generating one or more search strings based on a plurality of keywords associated with the at least one application activity.

The method of claim 14, wherein the determination that the at least one of the terms inputted by the user for display in the discussion feed window corresponds to the at least one application activity stored in the data mapping table comprises a determination that the at least one of the terms inputted by the user matches a keyword corresponding to the at least one application activity, and wherein generating the search comprises generating one or more search strings based on the keyword corresponding to the at least one application activity.

The method of claim 14, wherein the monitoring comprises a monitoring client associated with the computing device monitoring the terms inputted by the user for display in the discussion feed window of the social media community via an Application Program Interface (API) of an application associated with the discussion feed window.
