1. A system for a vehicle, comprising:

  • a battery system;

    an electric motor coupled to the battery system and configured to selectively provide power to the vehicle with energy from the battery system;

    an internal combustion engine configured to selectively provide power to the vehicle;

    a heating system configured to transfer heat from the internal combustion engine to a passenger compartment of the vehicle;

    an ambient temperature sensor configured to determine an ambient temperature; and

    a controller configured to receive the ambient temperature from the ambient temperature sensor and to operate the electric motor and the internal combustion engine according to one of a plurality of drive cycle profiles, the controller configured to select the drive cycle profile from the plurality of drive cycle profiles based on the ambient temperature, the plurality of drive cycle profiles including;

    a first drive cycle profile that commands power from the electric motor until the battery system reaches a predetermined state of charge and subsequently commands power from the internal combustion engine, anda second drive cycle profile that commands power from the internal combustion engine and subsequently commands power from the electric motor,wherein the controller is configured to select the first drive cycle profile when the ambient temperature is greater than the predetermined temperature and to select the second drive cycle profile when the ambient temperature is less than or equal to the predetermined temperature.
