1. A composition for coating surfaces and objects giving rise to a hydrophobic coating comprising:

  • an acrylic binder, nano-particles from about 8 nm to about 100 nm associated covalently or non-covalently with alkyl or fluoroalkyl groups, and a solvent, wherein the solvent comprises acetone, t-butylacetate and/or combinations thereofwherein, when the composition is applied in an amount of about 2.5 square meters/liter on a substantially planar aluminum test plate that is held substantially constant at a temperature of approximately 23°

C., such application being divided into a series of five sprays, each such spray comprising about one-fifth of the total composition, the composition produces within sixty seconds following each spray a coating that does not transfer to or stick to a surface brought in contact with the coated area, wherein the drying of the spray is not accelerated by heating or forced air circulation, provided that the solvent in the composition can freely evaporate.
