1. A method comprising:

  • receiving, by an issuer computer, an authorization request for a transaction between a consumer and a merchant, the authorization request including an amount of funds to be authorized for the transaction, an account identifier associated with the consumer, and a Globally Unique Identifier (GUID) associated with the transaction of the merchant wherein the GUID is unique among a plurality transactions of a plurality of merchants;

    associating, by the issuer computer, the GUID in the authorization request message with the transaction;

    storing, by the issuer computer, the GUID associated with the transaction, and information associated with the transaction, for use in subsequent processing of the transaction;

    determining, by the issuer computer, that the transaction is approved based on an account associated with the account identifier; and

    sending, by the issuer computer, an authorization response that does not include the account identifier but that includes the GUID, and an indication that the transaction was approved.
