1. A lighting system, comprising:

  • an occupancy sensor for sensing an occupancy condition of a monitored area; and

    a light sensor for providing a lighting signal representative of a lighting level of the monitored area;

    a first light configured to be energized when the occupancy sensor senses a presence of an occupant in the monitored area;

    a second light configured to be energized when the occupancy sensor fails to sense the presence of an occupant in the monitored area;

    wherein, regardless of the occupancy condition of the monitored area, the first light is energized when the lighting signal indicates the lighting level is below a predetermined threshold lighting level, and the lighting level is below the predetermined threshold lighting level being a lighting level associated with a failure of the second light.
