1. A system, comprising:
- a neurostimulation device configured to be coupled to a plurality of electrodes; and
an external control device having a programming selection control element to receive user input via the programming selection control element to select between or among at least two different programming modes for the neurostimulation device, wherein a first programming mode has a first electrode configuration, and the external control device is configured to respond to the user input by switching from the first programming mode to another programming mode, andwherein the external control device is further configured to define another electrode configuration for the other programming mode based on the first electrode configuration, generate a stimulation parameter set corresponding to the second electrode configuration, and instruct the neurostimulation device to convey electrical energy to the plurality of electrodes in accordance with the stimulation parameter set.

Abstract
A system and method for programming a neurostimulation device coupled to a plurality of electrodes implanted adjacent tissue of a patient are provided. A first electrode configuration corresponding to a first mode of programming the neurostimulation device is defined. A second programming mode of programming the neurostimulation device different from the first programming mode is selected. A second electrode configuration is defined based on the first electrode configuration in response to the selection of the second programming mode. The neurostimulation device is programmed using the second programming mode.

13. A method of operating a system that includes a plurality of electrodes and a neurostimulation device coupled to the plurality of electrodes, and an external control device that includes a user interface, the method comprising:
-
receiving, via a programming selection control element on the user interface of the external control device, user input to select one of different programming modes for the neurostimulation device; responding to the user input by switching from another one of the different programming modes with a first electrode configuration to the selected one of the different programming modes with another electrode configuration, wherein each of the electrode configurations is a fractionalized electrode configuration; defining, using the external control device, the other electrode configuration for the other programming mode based on the first electrode configuration; generating, using the external control device, a stimulation parameter set corresponding to the second electrode configuration; and instructing, using the external control device, the neurostimulation device to convey electrical energy to the plurality of electrodes in accordance with the stimulation parameter set. - View Dependent Claims (14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20)
