1. A system comprising:

  • (a) a guide catheter having a distal end, wherein the distal end is configured to be inserted into a nostril of a patient, wherein the distal end of the guide catheter further comprises a curved portion; and

    (b) an illuminating guidewire slidably disposed within the guide catheter, the illuminating guidewire comprising;

    (i) a length sufficient to extend from exterior the patient through the patient'"'"'s nasal cavity and into sinuses of the patient,(ii) a flexible distal end portion comprising a coil,(iii) a plurality of illumination fibers extending to and within said distal end portion, wherein said plurality of illumination fibers are configured to emit illuminating light of a character to provide transillumination of light from within the patient'"'"'s sinuses to provide a glowing region on skin of the patient without causing trauma to tissue,(iv) a proximal end portion comprising;

    (A) at least one connecting structure configured to connect at least one illumination fiber of the plurality of illumination fibers with a power source, and(B) an external casing enclosing together at least a proximal portion of each of the illumination fibers, wherein a distal end of said at least one connecting structure is fixed to a proximal end of said external casing, wherein a proximal portion of the coil is at least partially fixed to the external casing, and(v) at least one core wire coil support, longitudinally disposed within said coil, said at least one core wire coil support comprising a structure distinct from the plurality of illumination fibers, at least a portion of each core wire coil support fixed to said coil.
