1. An active acoustic filter system, comprising:

  • a microphone, a preamplifier, and an analog to digital converter to convert ambient sound experienced by the active acoustic filter system into digitized ambient sound;

    a memory storing one or more stored sound profiles and a respective set of processing parameters associated with each of the one or more stored sound profiles;

    a processor coupled to the memory and configured to;

    analyze the digitized ambient sound to create an ambient sound profile,determine whether or not the ambient sound profile matches one of the one or more stored sound profiles,when the ambient sound profile matches one of the one or more stored sound profiles;

    retrieve the set of processing parameters associated with the stored sound profile that matches the ambient sound profile, andgenerate digitized processed sound by processing the digitized ambient sound in accordance with the set of processing parameters retrieved from the memory, andwhen the ambient sound profile does not match one of the one or more stored sound profiles;

    generate digitized processed sound by processing the digitized ambient sound in accordance with processing parameters set by a user that indicate a listening preference of the ambient sound experienced by the active acoustic filter system, wherein the listening preference at least includes suppressing a decibel level of a first frequency range of the digitized ambient sound with respect to a decibel level of a second frequency range of the digitized ambient sound, andstore, in the memory, the ambient sound profile in association with the processing parameters set by the user; and

    a digital to analog converter, an amplifier, and a speaker to convert the digitized processed sound output from the processor into processed output sound, wherein the processed output sound is a modified version of the ambient sound experienced by the active acoustic system that reflects the user'"'"'s listening preference of the ambient sound experienced by the active acoustic filter system when the ambient sound profile does not match one of the one or more stored sound profiles.
