1. A method of matching an image surface to a retina surface, comprising:

  • receiving a measurement of at least a shape of a retina of a subject eye;

    determining a lens power that would focus light passing through the cornea and the pupil of the subject eye onto the retina surface;

    determining a shape of an image surface that would be produced by the eye with an IOL having the lens power;

    comparing the image surface shape to the shape of the retina surface;

    selecting a base lens power, including;

    in the case the image surface is flatter than the retina surface, selecting a base lens power greater than the lens power;

    in the case the image surface is less flat than the retina surface, selecting a base lens power less than the lens power;

    calculating a complimentary lens power equal to the lens power minus the selected base lens power; and

    providing for insertion in the subject eye'"'"'s line of sight a base lens having the base lens power and a complementary lens having the complementary lens power.
