1. A method for performing an adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) scheme in a mobile communication system, the method performed by a receiver and comprising:

  • receiving MCS information from a transmitter, wherein a size of the MCS information is 5 bits;

    identifying a modulation and coding scheme (MCS) level from an MCS set according to the MCS information; and

    communicating with the transmitter using the MCS level,wherein the MCS set includes a MCS subset defined in accordance with a service type of the receiver,wherein the MCS subset is configured with one or more MCS levels having different modulation schemes, andwherein the MCS level is indicated by using four bits of the MCS information when the MCS level is selected from the MCS subset.
