1. A method for producing a change in an aqueous-fluid medium, comprising:
- (1) placing in a vicinity of the aqueous fluid medium at least one of a plasmonics agent and an energy modulation agent, said energy modulation agent is configured to emit light into the aqueous fluid medium upon interaction with an initiation energy; and
(2) applying the initiation energy from an energy source to the aqueous fluid medium, wherein the applied initiation energy interacts with the plasmonics agent or the energy modulation agent to treat the aqueous fluid medium.

The method applies an initiation energy through the artificial container to the medium. The initiation energy interacts with the plasmonics agent or the energy modulation agent to directly or indirectly produce the change in the medium. The system includes an initiation energy source configured to apply an initiation energy to the medium to activate the plasmonics agent or the energy modulation agent.

1) an activatable agent and
