Abstract

Abuse-resistant oral dosage forms suitable for administration of pharmacologically active agents are provided.

Claims

1. A composition comprising:

a mixture comprising;

oxycodone, either in free base form or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt form thereof, in the form of particles having a particle size less than about 10 μ

m,

about 30 wt % to about 60 wt % of sucrose acetate isobutyrate,

about 0.1 wt % to about 10 wt % of hydroxyethylcellulose, and

about 0.1 wt % to about 40 wt % of solvent, and

a capsule, wherein the mixture is encapsulated within the capsule.

2. The composition of claim 1, wherein the oxycodone is present in the mixture in an amount ranging from about 1.3 wt % to about 35 wt %.

3. The composition of claim 1, further comprising a surfactant.

4. The composition of claim 1, further comprising a viscosity enhancing agent.

5. The composition of claim 4, wherein the viscosity enhancing agent comprises a stiffening agent.

6. The composition of claim 4, wherein the viscosity enhancing agent comprises silicon dioxide.

7. The composition of claim 1, wherein the solvent comprises triacetin.

8. The composition of claim 1, further comprising a hydrophobic solvent.

9. The composition of claim 1, wherein the hydroxyethylcellulose is present in the mixture in an amount ranging from about 3 wt % to about 10 wt %.

10. The composition of claim 1, further comprising a rheology modifier.

11. The composition of claim 10, wherein the rheology modifier is selected from isopropyl myristate, caprylic/capric triglyceride, ethyl oleate, triethyl citrate, dimethyl phthalate, and benzyl benzoate.

12. The composition of claim 10, wherein the rheology modifier is present in the mixture in an amount ranging from about 0.1 wt % to about 20 wt %.

13. The composition of claim 1, further comprising saturated polyglycolized glyceride.

14. The composition of claim 13, wherein the saturated polyglycolized glyceride is present in the mixture in an amount ranging from about 0.01 wt % to about 5 wt %.

15. The composition of claim 1, wherein the mixture is in the form of a suspension.

16. The composition of claim 1, wherein the capsule comprises gelatin, hydroxyethylcellulose, or hydroxypropylmethylcellulose.

17. A pharmaceutical dosage form comprising the composition of claim 1.
