1. A method, comprising:
- monitoring a first physiological parameter of a subject;
detecting whether the first physiological parameter meets a first criteria for triggering use of an atrial stretch therapy mode by a cardiac rhythm management device; and
responding to detecting that the first physiological parameter meets the first criteria by switching the cardiac rhythm management device from a first operating mode to the atrial stretch therapy mode, the atrial stretch therapy mode configured to time delivery of a pace so that;
(1) delivery of the pace results in a substantial overlap of ventricular systole and atrial systole, and (2) a ventricular contraction occurs before or substantially concurrent with an atrial contraction during the same cardiac cycle.

Abstract
Intermittent delivery of ventricular pacing pulses synchronized to occur during an atrial diastole time period can be used to provide atrial stretch therapy and augment the production and release of atrial natriuretic hormone.

9. An apparatus comprising:
a cardiac rhythm management device including; a cardiac pacing circuit configured to deliver a pacing pulse to a chamber of a heart; and a processor, coupled to the cardiac pacing circuit, the processor configured to include a first therapy delivery mode and an atrial stretch therapy mode, the processor configured to; switch from the first therapy delivery mode to the atrial stretch therapy mode based upon a triggering event; and time delivery of the pacing pulse to the chamber of the heart, when in the atrial stretch therapy mode, so that;
(1) delivery of the pacing pulse results in a substantial overlap of ventricular systole and atrial systole, and (2) a ventricular contraction occurs before or substantially concurrent with an atrial contraction during the same cardiac cycle.- View Dependent Claims (10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15)

16. An apparatus comprising:
a cardiac rhythm management device comprising; a cardiac pacing circuit configured to deliver a pacing pulse to a chamber of a heart; and a processor circuit, coupled to the cardiac pacing circuit, the processor configured to include an atrial stretch therapy mode, the processor configured to; receive first physiological data about a subject, the first physiological data including at least systemic blood pressure of the subject; time delivery of the pacing pulse, when in the atrial stretch therapy mode, so that;
(1) delivery of the pacing pulse results in a substantial overlap of ventricular systole and atrial systole, and (2) a ventricular contraction occurs before or substantially concurrent with an atrial contraction during the same cardiac cycle; andlimit use of the atrial stretch therapy mode when the first physiological data meets a first criteria. - View Dependent Claims (17, 18)
