1. A method of operating an electronic device, the method comprising:
- with a grip sensor in the electronic device, generating sensor data that indicates whether the electronic device is being held;
with a processor in the electronic device, detecting a change between a first state in which the electronic device is being held and a second state in which the electronic device is not being held based on the sensor data and determining a control action based on the sensor data;
with a component in the electronic device, performing the control action to adjust operation of the component, wherein the component comprises a component selected from the group consisting of;
a display and an audio system, and wherein the control action comprises a control action selected from the group consisting of;
adjusting a graphical user interface on the display, and adjusting the audio system; and
with an internal clock in the electronic device, determining a duration of time since the change, wherein the component performs the control action only if the duration of time exceeds a predetermined duration of time.

Abstract
A speakerphone system integrated in a mobile device is automatically controlled based on the current state of the mobile device. In one implementation, the mobile device is controlled based on an orientation or position of the mobile device. In another implementation, the control of the speakerphone includes automatically controlling one or more graphical user interfaces associated with the speakerphone system.

6. An electronic device comprising:
-
a grip sensor configured to generate sensor data indicative of whether the electronic device is being held, wherein the grip sensor determines a state of the electronic device based on the sensor data; a processor configured to detect a change between a first state of the electronic device in which the electronic device is being held and a second state of the electronic device in which the electronic device is not being held based on the sensor data and configured to determine a control action based on the determined state of the electronic device; a component in the electronic device that generates an output, wherein the component performs the control action to adjust the output, wherein the component comprises a component selected from the group consisting of;
a display and an audio system, and wherein the control action comprises a control action selected from the group consisting of;
adjusting a graphical user interface on the display, and adjusting the audio system; andan internal clock that determines a duration of time since the change occurred, wherein the component performs the control action only if the duration of time exceeds a predetermined duration of time. - View Dependent Claims (7, 8, 9, 10)

11. A method, comprising:
-
with one or more sensors in a mobile phone, detecting whether a user is holding the mobile phone; with a camera in the mobile phone, capturing images and using the captured images to determine whether the user is holding the mobile phone; and automatically controlling an audio system associated with the mobile phone based on whether the sensor and the captured images indicate that the user is holding the mobile phone. - View Dependent Claims (12, 13, 14)
