1. An end effector for use with an annular surgical stapling apparatus, the end effector comprising:
- a staple cartridge assembly having a tissue contacting surface defining a central aperture and a plurality of staple retaining slots in an annular configuration, each staple retaining slot of the plurality of staple retaining slots including a staple disposed therein;
an anvil assembly movable relative to the staple cartridge assembly;
a surgical buttress releasably attached to the tissue contacting surface of the staple cartridge assembly; and
an adhesive tape disposed between the surgical buttress and the tissue contacting surface of the staple cartridge assembly without covering the plurality of staple retaining slots of the staple cartridge assembly, the adhesive tape having;
a first adhesive bond with the tissue contacting surface of the staple cartridge assembly; and
a second welded bond with the surgical buttress for retaining the surgical buttress atop the tissue contacting surface of the staple cartridge assembly,wherein a firing force of the staples from the staple cartridge assembly breaks the second welded bond between the surgical buttress and the adhesive tape.
