1. A patient care system comprising:
- a plurality of sensors for generating a real-time physiologic condition data stream, the real-time physiologic condition data stream including values for a plurality of different physiologic parameters, associated sensed conditions based upon the real-time physiologic condition data stream, and sensor equipment information;
a medical pump for delivering a medicine to a patient, the medical pump generating a pump equipment information data stream including a plurality of pump conditions and pump operating parameters;
a processor in communication with the plurality of sensors and the medical pump and including a memory and a logic adapted to;
receive the real-time physiological condition data stream including the values for the plurality of different physiologic parameters, the associated sensed conditions, and sensor equipment information;
receive pump equipment information from the medical pump;
receive in the memory a plurality of user customizable medical system algorithms available for selection, each of the medical system algorithms being established by an authorized hospital user and being independently selectable without changing to a different protocol or personality of the medical pump, at least some of the medical system algorithms comprising a user customizable predetermined response based upon at least two parameter/condition pairs connected by a Boolean operator being satisfied;
receive a selection of a medical system algorithm from the plurality of medical system algorithms stored in the memory; and
,implement the selected medical system algorithm to process the real-time condition data stream and execute the predetermined response if the medical system algorithm is satisfied.
