Infusion set component with modular fluid channel element
First Claim
1. An infusion set component for a fluid infusion device that delivers fluid to a patient, the infusion set component comprising:
- a base; and
a fluid channel module coupled to the base;
the base comprising;
a base body section having a first rail spaced apart from a second rail, the base body section configured to accommodate removable coupling with a fluid tubing connector of the fluid infusion device;
a cavity defined between the first rail and the second rail of the base body section, the cavity having a first end substantially opposite a second end, and the second end of the cavity is open to receive the fluid channel module between the first rail and the second rail;
a lock tab positioned at the first end of the cavity; and
the fluid channel module comprising;
a body section that defines an interior fluid flow channel to receive fluid from the fluid tubing connector, the body section including a resilient hook that deflects around the lock tab during insertion of the fluid channel module within the cavity and the body section is received within the cavity such that the body section is positioned between the first rail and the second rail; and
a conduit in fluid communication with the interior fluid flow channel to deliver fluid from the interior fluid flow channel, wherein the interior fluid flow channel and the conduit cooperate to form a fluid flow path and the conduit comprises a hollow needle having a first end located within the interior fluid flow channel, and a second end to deliver fluid to the patient.

Abstract
An infusion set component of a fluid infusion device and/or a fluid infusion port component for delivery of fluid to a patient is compatible with a cooperating fluid channel module. The fluid channel module includes a body section having coupling features to mate with a base of the component. The fluid channel module also includes an interior fluid flow channel formed within the body section to receive fluid from the fluid infusion device and/or from a syringe or pen delivery device. The fluid channel module also includes a conduit having a first end in fluid communication with the interior fluid flow channel, and having a second end to deliver the fluid to the patient.

8. A fluid infusion port component to accommodate delivery of fluid to a patient, the fluid infusion port comprising:
-
a base; and a fluid channel module coupled to the base; the base comprising first universal coupling features that mate with corresponding second universal coupling features of the fluid channel module, the first universal coupling features including a lock tab, a first rail and a second rail, the first rail spaced apart from the second rail and defining a cavity between the first rail and the second rail, the cavity has a first end substantially opposite a second end, and the second end is open to receive the fluid channel module between the first rail and the second rail, the lock tab positioned at the first end of the cavity such that the lock tab is between the first rail and the second rail; and the fluid channel module comprising; an interior fluid flow channel having an inlet; the second universal coupling features including a resilient hook that deflects around the lock tab and returns to a nominal position to lock the fluid channel module within the cavity such that the fluid channel module is positioned between the first rail and the second rail; a septum positioned at the inlet, wherein the septum is pierced by a fluid delivery needle to accommodate delivery of fluid into the interior fluid flow channel, and wherein the septum seals the inlet when the fluid delivery needle is removed from the septum; and a conduit in fluid communication with the interior fluid flow channel to deliver fluid from the interior fluid flow channel, wherein the interior fluid flow channel and the conduit cooperate to form a fluid flow path and the conduit comprises a hollow needle having a first end located within the interior fluid flow channel, and a second end to deliver fluid to the patient. - View Dependent Claims (9)
