1. A key comprising:

  • a sensor substrate;

    a spacer layer disposed proximal to the sensor substrate and having at least one opening that exposes the sensor substrate, the opening defining a plurality of edges of the key; and

    a flexible contact layer spaced apart from the sensor substrate by the spacer layer and configured to flex through the opening in response to an applied pressure to initiate an input through contact with the sensor substrate, the flexible contact layer secured to the spacer layer such that;

    at a first said edge, the flexible contact layer is secured with adhesive to the spacer layer at one or more discrete portions of the first said edge thereby defining portions along the first said edge that do not include adhesive; and

    at a second said edge, the flexible contact layer is secured with adhesive to the spacer layer at one or more discrete portions of the second said edge thereby defining portions along the second said edge that do not include adhesive, the one or more discrete portions of the first said edge different than the one or more discrete portions of the second said edge.
