1. A wireless communication terminal comprising:
- a transceiver coupled to a processor,the processor configured to receive, at the wireless communication terminal, a signal over a plurality of REs including a first transmission from a first base station and a second transmission from a second base station;
the processor configured to determine a first subset of a plurality of resource elements (REs) in a signal received at the terminal, the first subset being the first transmission from the first base station,the processor configured to determine a second subset of the plurality of REs that include both the first transmission and the second transmission;
the processor configured to determine a first channel state including a first noise variance corresponding to the first subset of the plurality of REs;
the processor configured to determine a second channel state including a second noise variance corresponding to the second subset of the plurality of REs; and
the processor configured to estimate a hypothetical block error rate (BLER) based on the first channel state, the second channel state, the first noise variance and the second noise variance.

Abstract
A wireless communication terminal is disclosed. The terminal includes a transceiver coupled to a processor configured to determine that a subset of a plurality of resource elements (REs) must be excluded from demodulation, the plurality of REs received in a signal from a first base station, to estimate a hypothetical block error rate (BLER) based on the signal received from the first base station by excluding the subset of the plurality of REs, and to estimate channel state information based on the hypothetical BLER.
