Abstract

A coaxial connector includes a body having a longitudinal axis passing through first and second opposed body ends, the second body end for engaging a male coaxial connector, within the body a coil spring, a connector center conductor, and a second body end insulator supporting the connector center conductor, and a spring for urging an electromagnetic shield to protrude from the body.

Claims

1. A coaxial connector comprising:

a connector body having a longitudinal axis passing through first and second opposed body ends, the second body end for engaging a male coaxial cable connector;

a connector center conductor for transporting a signal through the connector;

a coil spring that is coiled about the longitudinal axis; and

,

the coil spring urging an electromagnetic shield to protrude from the second body end;

within the connector body the coil spring extends along the longitudinal axis;

within the connector body, a second body end insulator supports the connector center conductor;

the spring encircling the second body end insulator;

the spring having a spring stationary end proximate an insulator;

a spring moveable end for urging the electromagnetic shield to protrude from an aperture in the second body end; and

,

wherein the spring is compressed when the male coaxial cable connector engages the electromagnetic shield and the connector body second end.

2. The connector of claim 1 further comprising:

a resilient ground wiper for electrically interconnecting the electromagnetic shield and the connector body; and

,

the ground wiper extending between opposed surfaces of the electromagnetic shied and the body.

3. The connector of claim 1 wherein the second body end insulator and a first body end insulator are stationary insulators.

4. The connector of claim 1 wherein the connector body contains but one coil spring that is coiled around the longitudinal axis.

5. The connector of claim 1 wherein the second body end insulator is a stationary insulator having a proximal end bearing on the connector body and a distal end adjacent to the aperture.

6. The connector of claim 5 wherein the spring stationary end bears on an electrically conductive ring that in turn bears on the second body end insulator proximal end, the ring for completing an electrical ground path between the spring and the connector body.

7. The connector of claim 1 wherein the second body end insulator and the electromagnetic shield are coaxially arranged with a circumferential gap therebetween.

8. The connector of claim 1 wherein the first body end is for engaging a coaxial connector.

9. The connector of claim 1 further comprising:

a waveguide with a central aperture, the aperture having a maximum dimension perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of 3.0 mm.

10. The connector of claim 9 wherein the waveguide aperture has a maximum thickness along the longitudinal axis of 2.0 mm.

11. A coaxial connector comprising:

a connector body having a longitudinal axis passing through first and second opposed body ends, the second body end for engaging a male coaxial cable connector;

a connector center conductor for transporting a signal through the connector;

a coil spring that is coiled about the longitudinal axis; and

,

the coil spring urging an electromagnetic shield to protrude from the second body end;

wherein the connector center conductor is non-tubular;

wherein an end of the connector center conductor supported by a second body end insulator includes jaws and a center conductor link portion that extends from the jaws.

12. The connector of claim 11 wherein a cross-section of the link normal to connector longitudinal axis is an open cross-section.

13. The connector of claim 11 wherein the link cross-section is described by three sides of a rectangle.

14. The connector of claim 11 wherein the link cross-section is described by an arc.

15. The connector of claim 11 wherein the link cross-section is described by an incomplete triangle.

16. The connector of claim 11 wherein the link cross-section is described by a polygon.

17. The connector of claim 11 wherein a first cross-section of the link normal to connector longitudinal axis is a solid cross-section.

18. The connector of claim 17 wherein the link first cross-section is described by a circle.

19. The connector of claim 18 wherein a second link cross-section is a solid-cross section described by a circle with diameter different from that of the first cross-section.

20. The connector of claim 11 wherein the link is formed as a planar element.

21. The connector of claim 11 wherein the link is formed by plural substantially planar elements.

22. The connector of claim 11 wherein the link is formed by folding a planar element along its length to form a link having an open cross-section normal to the connector axis.

23. The connector of claim 11 wherein the jaws are elongated plates bent to form an undulating surface along a length of the jaws.
