Method and system for controlling an output of a radio-frequency medical generator having an impedance based control algorithm
First Claim
1. A control system, comprising:
- a sensor configured to sense at least one parameter related to tissue and to generate at least one sensor signal in response thereto; and
a controller configured to execute a control algorithm to process the at least one sensor signal to determine parameter data, the controller further configured to determine whether an initial reaction with the tissue has occurred based on a change in the at least one parameter and whether the parameter data is reliable or unreliable based on whether the initial reaction with the tissue has occurred, the parameter data being determined to be unreliable until the initial reaction occurs.

Abstract
A system for performing an electrosurgical procedure at a surgical site is disclosed. The system includes a sensor configured to continually sense an electrical and/or a physical property of tissue at a surgical site and to generate a sensor signal as a function thereof. The system also includes a control module configured to process the sensor signal using a processor, an algorithm, and a map having one or more predetermined values. The control module is further configured to compare the sensor signal to a predetermined level to determine reliability of the sensor signal and to signal an electrosurgical generator in response to a reliable sensor signal such that the electrosurgical generator enters energy control mode, wherein the electrosurgical generator matches an output of the control signal with a predetermined value from the map.

-
sensing, via a sensor, at least one parameter related to tissue and generating at least one sensor signal in response thereto; and executing, via a controller, a control algorithm to process the at least one sensor signal, to determine whether an initial reaction with the tissue at a surgical site has occurred based on a change in the at least one parameter, and to determine whether parameter data received from the sensor is reliable or unreliable based on whether the initial reaction with tissue has occurred at a surgical site, the parameter data being determined to be unreliable until the initial reaction occurs. - View Dependent Claims (11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18)

19. A method for performing an electrosurgical procedure, the method comprising:
-
sensing, via a sensor, at least one parameter related to tissue and generating at least one sensor signal in response thereto; executing, via a controller, a control algorithm to process the at least one sensor signal, to determine whether an initial reaction with the tissue at a surgical site has occurred based on a change in the at least one parameter, and to determine whether parameter data received from the sensor is reliable or unreliable based on whether the initial tissue reaction has occurred at a surgical site, the parameter data being determined to be unreliable until the initial reaction occurs; detecting, via the control algorithm, whether the at least one parameter related to tissue has increased at an initial time of operation to determine whether the initial tissue reaction has occurred at the surgical site; and compensating and preventing, via the controller, the initial data from entering the control algorithm if the initial tissue reaction at the surgical site has not occurred. - View Dependent Claims (20)
