1. A method for arc detection in a system including a photovoltaic panel and a load coupled to the photovoltaic panel with a DC power line, the method for arc detection comprising:

  • measuring power delivered to the load thereby producing a first measurement result comprising the power delivered to the load;

    measuring power produced by the photovoltaic panel thereby producing a second measurement result comprising the power produced by the photovoltaic panel;

    determining a first differential power measurement result comprising a difference between the first measurement result and the second measurement result;

    changing, at a first time, an impedance of the load according to a predetermined value;

    measuring the power produced by the photovoltaic panel after the first time, thereby producing a third measurement result comprising the power of the photovoltaic panel after the first time;

    measuring the power delivered to the load after the first time, thereby producing a fourth measurement result comprising the power delivered to the load after the first time;

    comparing the third measurement result with the fourth measurement result thereby producing a second differential power measurement result;

    comparing the first differential power measurement result with the second differential power measurement result thereby producing a total differential power measurement result; and

    responsive to the total differential power measurement result being greater than a threshold value, setting an alarm condition indicating a potential arcing condition in the system.
