Patent Images

1. A display device, comprising:

  • a display part including (a) pixels of a first series and (b) pixels of a second series, the pixels of the first series and the pixels of the second series being arrayed alternately in a first direction;

    a parallax barrier comprised of (a) first series barriers or openings and (b) second series barriers, the first series barriers or openings and second series barriers being arrayed alternately in the first direction,wherein,the display device has a plurality of display modes including a first display mode and a second display mode,in the first display mode (1) a 2D image signal is applied to the display part, (2) the parallax barrier is driven by a barrier control signal such that the first series barriers or openings and the second series barriers are in a transmissive state, and (3) the pixels of the first series and the pixels of the second series jointly display an image in accordance with the 2D image signal,in the second display mode (1) a 3D image signal is applied to the display part, (2) the parallax barrier is driven by the barrier control signal such that the first series barriers or openings are in the transmissive state and the second series barriers are in a non-transmissive state, and (3) the pixels of the first series display a plurality of images via the first series barriers or openings and the pixels of the second series only display a black color or a gray color in accordance with the 3D image signal.
