Control of pneumatic carrier system based on carrier or payload identification
First Claim
1. A method for use in a computerized controller operating a pneumatic carrier system comprising the steps of:
- receiving information from a first communications device that reads an identification device associated with a first pneumatic carrier located at a first location in a pneumatic carrier system;
utilizing said information to identify a first priority of a payload of the first pneumatic carrier;
identifying a second priority of a payload of a second pneumatic carrier scheduled to utilize a common portion of a travel path through the pneumatic carrier system of the first pneumatic carrier;
suspending processing of the second pneumatic carrier if said second priority is lower than said first priority; and
generating a set of control signals to effect delivery of said first pneumatic carrier through the common portion of the travel path prior to delivering the second pneumatic carrier through the common portion of the travel path.

Abstract
A system and method provides for controlling a pneumatic carrier system based on identification information read from a carrier or a payload of the carrier. Each carrier or payload which is to be employed within the system includes an identification device such as a radio frequency identification (RFID) chip which has stored thereon information for the carrier or payload. Positioned throughout the system are communications devices such as antennas and readers which are employed to read and/or write identification information on the identification device. Based on reading the identification device at locations within the system, the operation of the system is altered.

5. A method for use in a computerized controller operating a pneumatic carrier system comprising the steps of:
-
receiving inputs from at least first and second communications devices of a pneumatic carrier system, wherein the communications devices are configured to read identification elements associated with at least first and second pneumatic carriers located proximate to the communications devices; utilizing identification information received from the identification elements to identify at least first and second travel routes of the at least first and second pneumatic carriers through the pneumatic carrier system; upon identifying the first and second travel routes utilize a common segment of the pneumatic carrier system, accessing a priority record for the pneumatic carriers to identify a priority indicator for each carrier; based on the priority indicator for each of the carriers, advancing the carrier having a higher priority though the common segment prior to advancing the carrier having the lower priority through the common segment. - View Dependent Claims (6, 7, 8, 9)

10. A method for use in a computerized controller operating a pneumatic carrier system comprising the steps of:
-
receiving priority input read from an identification device attached to a first pneumatic carrier; identifying a first travel path through a pneumatic carrier system for said first pneumatic carrier; identifying all pending transactions scheduled to utilize at least one system component in the first travel path of said first pneumatic carrier; and suspending at least one pending transaction scheduled to utilize the at least one system component in the first travel path of the first pneumatic carrier; generating control signals to effect delivery of said first pneumatic carrier though said first travel path prior to delivery of the suspended transaction. - View Dependent Claims (11, 12)
