1. A method, comprising:

  • generating in a receiver one or more candidate sample-sequences, wherein each candidate sample-sequence corresponds to a respective channel-multipath candidate that comprises a respective combination of up to a predefined number of path delays, and wherein each candidate sample-sequence comprises one or more copies of a predefined sampled pulse-shape that are positioned at the path delays of the corresponding channel-multipath candidate;

    receiving in the receiver a signal that traversed a multipath channel having a channel response, so as to produce a received sequence of samples that are indicative of the channel response;

    estimating the channel response by the receiver, by selecting the candidate sample-sequence that best matches the received sequence.
