Transmitting CQI and ACK/NACK information via a physical uplink channel
First Claim
1. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) comprising:
- a processor and a transmitter configured to for one or more transition time intervals;
select between transmission of;
(1) acknowledgment/negative acknowledgment (ACK/NACK) information with channel quality information (CQI) and (2) the ACK/NACK information without the CQI, as a selection, wherein the selection between the transmission of the ACK/NACK information with the CQI and the transmission of the ACK/NACK information without the CQI is based on higher layer signaling;
generate a signal using one of;
(1) the ACK/NACK information with the CQI or (2) the ACK/NACK information without the CQI in accordance with the selection; and
transmit the generated signal, to a network entity, (1) on physical uplink channel resources which carry data on condition that the ACK/NACK information with the CQI is the selection and data is being sent, and (2) on the physical uplink channel resources which do not carry data on condition that the ACK/NACK information without the CQI is the selection and no data is being sent.

Abstract
A method and apparatus for uplink transmission over a non-contentious shared feedback channel are disclosed, wherein the parameters of the uplink transmission are determined by the parameters of a downlink transmission. A new uplink channel, called a physical shared uplink feedback channel (PSUFCH) is used for uplink transmission such as feedback information in response to a downlink transmission on a fast shared data channel. The content of the feedback information may be general, e.g. an ACK/NACK or a channel quality indicator (CQI). The PSUFCH is transmitted using power ramping that terminates upon reception of a downlink ACK (DLACK) from a Node-B. No ambiguity resolution is required due to the non-contentious and deterministic mapping of the uplink channel resources.
