1. A gaming system comprising:
- a housing;
a plurality of input devices supported by the housing, said plurality of input devices including;
(i) an acceptor, and(ii) a cashout device;
at least one display device supported by the housing;
at least one processor; and
at least one memory device which stores a plurality of instructions, which when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to;
(a) if a physical item is received via the acceptor, establish a credit balance based, at least in part, on a monetary value associated with the received physical item,(b) for one play of a game of quality of at least two plays of the game;
(i) enable a player to place a wager,(ii) determine a game outcome from a plurality of game outcomes,(iii) cause the at least one display device to display the determined game outcome, and(iv) cause the at least one display device to display any game award associated with the determined game outcome,(c) determine if the determined game outcome is associated with a modification of a bonus opportunity counter,(d) if the determined game outcome is not associated with the modification of the bonus opportunity counter, reset the bonus opportunity counter,(e) if the determined game outcome is associated with the modification of the bonus opportunity counter;
(i) modify the bonus opportunity counter,(ii) cause the at least one display device to display the modified bonus opportunity counter,(iii) if the modified bonus opportunity counter reaches a designated value, cause the at least one display device to display a non-monetary bonus opportunity award,(iv) if the modified bonus opportunity counter has not reached the designated value and has not been reset in association with the quantity of plays of the game, repeat (b) to (e) for another one of the plays of the game of the quantity of plays of the game,(v) if the modified bonus opportunity counter has not reached the designated value and has been reset in association with the quantity of plays of the game, not repeat (c) to (e) for any subsequent plays of the game of the quantity of plays of the game, and(f) if a cashout input is received via the cashout device, cause an initiation of any payout associated with the credit balance.

Abstract
Methods and apparatus for providing an award based on a multiplicity of game outcomes. In one implementation the invention provides a method for providing a game. The method includes placing a bet by a player, playing of a game to produce a game outcome, evaluating a primary game outcome, paying a direct award if the primary outcome merits it, advancing a bonus accumulator if the primary outcome merits it, and if the bonus accumulator has advanced sufficiently, paying a bonus award to the player and clearing the bonus accumulator.

(a) enabling a player to place a bonus opportunity wager associated with a quantity of at least two plays of a wagering game, wherein a credit balance is decreasable based on the bonus opportunity wager placed, said credit balance being; (i) increasable via an acceptor of a physical item associated with a monetary value, and (ii) decreasable via a cashout device, and (b) if the player placed the bonus opportunity wager; (i) for one of the plays of the wagering game of the quantity of plays of the wagering game; (A) enabling the player to place a game wager, (B) causing at least one processor to execute a plurality of instructions to determine a game outcome from a plurality of game outcomes, (C) causing a display, via at least one display device, of the determined game outcome to the player, and (D) causing a display, via the at least one display device, of any game award associated with the determined game outcome, (ii) causing the at least one processor to execute the plurality of instructions to determine if the determined game outcome is associated with a modification of a bonus opportunity counter, (iii) if the determined game outcome is not associated with the modification of the bonus opportunity counter, causing the at least one processor to execute the plurality of instructions to reset the bonus opportunity counter, and (iv) if the determined game outcome is associated with the modification of the bonus opportunity counter; (A) causing the at least one processor to execute the plurality of instructions to modify the bonus opportunity counter, (B) causing a display, via the at least one display device, of the modified bonus opportunity counter, (C) if the modified bonus opportunity counter reaches a designated value, providing a bonus opportunity award to the player, and (D) if the modified bonus opportunity counter has not reached the designated value and has not been reset in association with any of the plays of the wagering game of the quantity of plays of the wagering game, repeating (b)(i) to (b)(iv) for another one of the plays of the wagering game of the quantity of plays of the wagering game. - View Dependent Claims (16, 17, 18, 19)

(a) enabling a player to place a bonus opportunity wager associated with a quantity of at least two plays of a wagering game, wherein a credit balance is decreasable based on the bonus opportunity wager placed, said credit balance being; (i) increasable via an acceptor of a physical item associated with a monetary value, and (ii) decreasable via a cashout device, and (b) if the player placed the bonus opportunity wager; (i) for each of the quantity of plays of the wagering game; (A) enabling the player to place a game wager, (B) causing at least one processor to execute a plurality of instructions to determine a game outcome from a plurality of game outcomes, (C) causing a display, via at least one display device, of the determined game outcome, and (D) causing a display, via the at least one display device, of any game award associated with the determined game outcome, (ii) if none of the determined game outcomes of the quantity of plays of the wagering game are associated with any of a plurality of designated game outcomes, providing the player a bonus opportunity award, and (iii) if at least one of the determined game outcomes of the quantity of plays of the wagering game is associated with at least one of the plurality of designated game outcomes, not providing the player the bonus opportunity award. - View Dependent Claims (21, 22, 23, 24)
