1. A method for traffic offload, the method comprising:

  • monitoring a loading level at a first access node and, when the loading level at the first access node exceeds a threshold, configuring, by the first access node, a second access node to operate in a closed access mode for a predetermined period of time, the loading level being based on a number of wireless devices with subscription data other than a closed access mode identity of the second access node;

    assigning a closed access mode identity to the second access node for the predetermined period of time;

    selecting a set of wireless devices connected to the first access node for traffic offload to the second access node;

    configuring subscription data of the selected wireless devices to include the assigned closed access mode identity of the second access node;

    performing, by the first access node, an intra-frequency or inter-frequency handover of the selected wireless devices to the second access node; and

    updating the set of wireless devices selected for traffic offload to the second access node periodically during the predetermined period of time based on the monitored loading level at the first access node.
