1. A method for making a textured breast implant, the method comprising the steps of:
- providing a breast implant mandrel comprising a base and a stem depending from the base, the mandrel being covered with a silicone elastomer shell;
providing a device comprising;
a member structured to engage the breast implant mandrel, the member including a base-engaging distal portion and a stem-engaging proximal portion depending from the base-engaging distal portion,wherein the base-engaging distal portion comprises a base-engaging surface, an aperture defined in the base-engaging surface, and a proximally sloping rim circumscribing the base-engaging surface, andwherein the stem-engaging proximal portion is structured to receive the stem of the mandrel,securing the device to the mandrel over the silicone elastomer shell;
coating the breast implant mandrel with a tacky elastomer;
immersing the breast implant mandrel and device secured thereto into a bath of texturing particles;
removing the device from the mandrel;
curing the tacky elastomer; and
removing the texturing particles after the curing,wherein the member provides a barrier preventing the texturing particles from contacting a portion of the mandrel and silicone elastomer shell thereover during the immersing so that the portion remains smooth or untextured after the curing.

1. A method for making a textured breast implant, the method comprising the steps of:
-
providing a breast implant mandrel comprising a base and a stem depending from the base, the mandrel being covered with a silicone elastomer shell; providing a device comprising; a member structured to engage the breast implant mandrel, the member including a base-engaging distal portion and a stem-engaging proximal portion depending from the base-engaging distal portion, wherein the base-engaging distal portion comprises a base-engaging surface, an aperture defined in the base-engaging surface, and a proximally sloping rim circumscribing the base-engaging surface, and wherein the stem-engaging proximal portion is structured to receive the stem of the mandrel, securing the device to the mandrel over the silicone elastomer shell; coating the breast implant mandrel with a tacky elastomer; immersing the breast implant mandrel and device secured thereto into a bath of texturing particles; removing the device from the mandrel; curing the tacky elastomer; and removing the texturing particles after the curing, wherein the member provides a barrier preventing the texturing particles from contacting a portion of the mandrel and silicone elastomer shell thereover during the immersing so that the portion remains smooth or untextured after the curing. - View Dependent Claims (2, 3, 4, 5)

6. A method for making a textured breast implant, the method comprising the steps of:
-
providing a breast implant mandrel having a particle-coated tacky surface over a base of the mandrel, the mandrel comprising a stem depending from the base; providing a device comprising; a member structured to engage the breast implant mandrel, the member including a base-engaging distal portion and a stem-engaging proximal portion depending from the base-engaging distal portion, wherein the base-engaging distal portion comprises a base-engaging surface, an aperture defined in the base-engaging surface, and a proximally sloping rim circumscribing the base-engaging surface, and wherein the stem-engaging proximal portion structured to receive the stem of the mandrel, securing the device to the breast implant mandrel such that the device covers a portion of the particle coated tacky surface; immersing the breast implant mandrel and device secured thereto into an elastomeric dispersion to form an elastomer coating on the mandrel; immersing the breast implant mandrel and device secured thereto into a bath of texturing particles over the elastomer coating; removing the device from the mandrel; curing the elastomer coating; and removing the texturing particles thereby producing a textured breast implant having a variable textured surface, wherein the member provides a barrier preventing the dispersion and the texturing particles from contacting the portion of the particle coated tacky surface covered by the device during the immersing steps so that the covered portion comprises fewer textured layers than an exposed portion of the tacky surface subjected to the immersing steps.

7. A method for making a variable textured breast implant, the method comprising the steps of:
-
providing a breast implant mandrel having a molding surface and a stem depending therefrom, with a cured elastomeric breast implant shell disposed on the molding surface; providing a device comprising a member structured to engage the breast implant mandrel, the member including a base-engaging distal portion and a stem-engaging proximal portion depending from the base-engaging distal portion, the base-engaging distal portion comprising a base-engaging surface for engaging the molding surface, an aperture defined in the base-engaging surface, and a proximally sloping rim circumscribing the base-engaging surface; positioning the device onto the mandrel over a portion of the shell; contacting the cured elastomeric implant shell on the molding surface with a tacky elastomer; contacting the tacky elastomer with texturing particles; removing the device from the mandrel; and removing the texturing particles from the tacky elastomer to thereby create a variable textured breast implant, wherein the device provides a barrier preventing the tacky elastomer and texturing particles from contacting the shell portion during the contacting with tacky elastomer and texturing particles so that the shell portion remains smooth or untextured after the removing. - View Dependent Claims (8)
