1. A noninvasive optical oximetry sensor including a reusable portion and a disposable portion, the sensor comprising:
- said reusable portion including;
a light source,one or more detectors configured to detect light from said light source after attenuation by tissue of a patient at a measurement site and configured output said signals responsive to said detected light,a plurality of conductors, some of said conductors communicating with said light source and others of said conductors communicating with said one or more detectors,an outer layer encasing at least said light source, said one or more detectors and at least some of said conductors, andone or more first mating elements;
said disposable portion including;
a positioning tape configured to position said light source proximate said measurement site, andone or more second mating elements configured to mate with said one or more first mating elements to position said light source proximate said measurement site, said first and second mating elements configured to have a limited range of motion with respect to one another to allow independent flexion of said reusable portion and said disposable portion during attachment of the sensor to the patient while ensuring alignment between said reusable portion and said disposable portion; and
an optical barrier element associated with at least one of the disposable portion or the reusable portion and configured to reduce light from said light source reaching said one or more detectors without passing through said tissue.

11. A multi-layered noninvasive optical medical sensor comprising:
-
an attachment layer configured to position sensor components proximate a measurement site on a patient; a mechanical coupling layer including matable structures configured to have a limited range of motion with respect to one another when mated, wherein said limited range of motion of said matable structures allows flexion of the sensor during attachment to the patient; an optical barrier element configured to reduce light from certain of said sensor components from reaching others of said sensor components without passing through tissue at said measurement site; and an outer layer including a light source and a detector of said sensor components, said light source configured to emit light, said detector configured to detect said light after attenuation by said tissue at said measurement site, the optical barrier element associated with at least one of the attachment layer and the outer layer, wherein said limited range of motion of said matable structures also ensures alignment of said attachment layer and said outer layer. - View Dependent Claims (12, 13, 14)
