1. A method for percutaneous aortic valve replacement comprising:

  • providing a temporary aortic valve comprising a central catheter mechanism and a plurality of expandable elements distributed around the catheter mechanism, the temporary aortic valve having a collapsed mode and a fully expanded mode;

    advancing the temporary aortic valve over a guide wire in the deflated mode to a position within the ascending aorta above a Sinus of Valsalva and coronary ostia of the patient;

    deploying the temporary aortic valve within the ascending aorta by fully expanding the plurality of expandable elements to lodge the temporary aortic valve against an inner wall of the ascending aorta, thereby placing the temporary aortic valve in the fully expanded mode, wherein in the fully expanded mode at least a surface of the fully expanded plurality of expandable elements is in contact with an inner wall of the ascending aorta while only partially occluding the ascending aorta and wherein gaps formed between the temporary aortic valve in the fully expanded mode in the ascending aorta and the inner wall of the ascending aorta provide for continuous blood perfusion therethrough;

    wherein the cross-sectional area of the gaps falls within a range of between 25% and 60% of a cross sectional area of the ascending aorta;

    pre-dilating a native aortic valve and ablating the native aortic valve of a patient while the temporary aortic valve is in the fully expanded mode within the ascending aorta; and

    positioning and implanting a permanent replacement percutaneous aortic valve within a native aortic annulus of the pre-dilated and ablated native aortic valve while the temporary aortic valve is in the fully expanded mode within the ascending aorta.
