Vehicle speed control system
First Claim
1. A speed control system operable to control a motor vehicle to operate in accordance with a set-speed value, the control system being operable to allow a user to reduce the set-speed value by actuation of a vehicle brake control member and/or to allow a user to increase the set-speed value by actuation of a vehicle accelerator control member, the system being further operable to compensate for an increase in brake torque applied by a braking system when the user actuates the brake control member to reduce the set-speed value by causing application of increased drive torque to one or more wheels of the vehicle and/or to compensate for an increase in powertrain torque applied when the user actuates the accelerator control member to increase the set-speed value by causing application of increased brake torque to one or more wheels of the vehicle in proportion to the increase in powertrain torque.

19. A vehicle comprising a speed control system operable to control said motor vehicle to operate in accordance with a set-speed value, the control system being operable to allow a user to reduce the set-speed value by actuation of a vehicle brake control member and/or to allow a user to increase the set-speed value by actuation of a vehicle accelerator control member, the system being further operable to compensate for an increase in brake torque applied when the user actuates the brake control member to reduce the set-speed value by causing application of increased drive torque to one or more wheels of the vehicle and/or to compensate for an increase in powertrain torque applied when the user actuates the accelerator control member to increase the set-speed value by causing application of increased brake torque to one or more wheels of the vehicle in proportion to the increase in powertrain torque.

20. A method of controlling speed of a motor vehicle comprising causing the vehicle to operate in accordance with a set-speed value, the method comprising allowing a user to reduce the set-speed value by actuation of a vehicle brake control member and/or allowing a user to increase in the set-speed value by actuation of a vehicle accelerator control member, the method further comprising compensating for an increase in brake torque applied when the user actuates the brake control member to reduce the set-speed value by causing application of increased drive torque to one or more wheels of the vehicle and/or compensating for an increase in powertrain torque applied when the user actuates the accelerator control member to increase the set-speed value by causing application of increased brake torque to one or more wheels of the vehicle in proportion to the increase in powertrain torque.
