1. A medical apparatus comprising:
- an electrically conductive lead for a medical device, the electrically conductive lead defining an internal bore terminating at a distal lead opening;
a lead delivery device for delivering the distal end of the lead to a blood vessel during implantation of the lead, wherein the electrically conductive lead is configured to be guided over the lead delivery device, wherein the lead delivery device comprises;
a removably anchorable guidewire comprising a distal end, wherein the removably anchorable guidewire comprises a fixator towards the distal end of the removably anchorable guidewire, wherein the fixator comprises a portion of the removably anchorable guidewire mechanically activatable to anchor the distal end of the removably anchorable guidewire to the blood vessel, wherein the fixator when mechanically activated provides one or more contact surfaces such that the one or more contact surfaces press against an internal lumen of the blood vessel with a holding force to temporarily anchor the guidewire of the lead delivery device in the blood vessel; and
a movable element slidably engaged with the removably anchorable guidewire to mechanically activate the removably anchorable guidewire to anchor the distal end of the removably anchorable guidewire to the blood vessel, wherein the removably anchorable guidewire is configured such that a force in the direction of the distal end of the guidewire on the movable element slidably engaged with the removably anchorable guidewire mechanically activates the removably anchorable guidewire to anchor the distal end of the removably anchorable guidewire to the blood vessel.

Abstract
A medical apparatus includes a guidewire and a fixator catheter. The fixator catheter comprises a tubular body with a distal portion and a proximal portion, and further includes a distal opening, a fixator secured to the distal portion, and a body opening arranged between the fixator and the proximal portion. The guidewire passes through the body opening and the distal opening of the fixator catheter. The fixator is movable between a compact configuration and an expanded configuration and, in the expanded condition, is capable of anchoring the guidewire and fixator catheter in a lumen of a blood vessel.

10. A medical method for implanting an electrically conductive lead for a medical device, wherein the electrically conductive lead defines an internal bore terminating at a distal lead opening, wherein the method comprises:
-
providing a lead delivery device, wherein the lead delivery device comprises; a removably anchorable guidewire comprising a distal end, wherein the removably anchorable guidewire comprises a fixator towards the distal end of the removably anchorable guidewire, wherein the fixator comprises a portion of the removably anchorable guidewire mechanically activatable to anchor the distal end of the removably anchorable guidewire to the blood vessel, wherein the fixator when activated provides one or more contact surfaces such that the one or more contact surfaces press against an internal lumen of the blood vessel with a holding force to temporarily anchor the guidewire of the lead delivery device in the blood vessel; and a movable element slidably engaged with the removably anchorable guidewire; advancing the lead delivery device comprising the removably anchorable guidewire to a target site in a lumen of a branching blood vessel; using the movable element slidably engaged with the removably anchorable guidewire to mechanically activate the fixator to removably anchor the distal end of the removably anchorable guidewire to the blood vessel, wherein using the movable element slidably engaged with the removably anchorable guidewire to mechanically activate the fixator comprises using a force in a direction towards the distal end of the guidewire on the movable element slidably engaged with the removably anchorable guidewire to mechanically activate the removably anchorable guidewire to anchor the distal end of the removably anchorable guidewire to the blood vessel; advancing the electrically conductive lead over the lead delivery device while the distal end of the removably anchorable guidewire is removably anchored in the lumen of the branching blood vessel of the blood vessel; delivering the electrically conductive lead to the target site; and removing the lead delivery device. - View Dependent Claims (11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18)
