an exciter configured to operate at a same frequency of an antenna of a device to be charged, where the exciter initiates and shapes microwave energy at a frequency of at least 500 MHz, where the exciter comprises; a ground structure; and a feed structure that is driven against the ground structure; and an adapter configured to hold a device to be charged with a side of the device to be charged external to the wireless charging apparatus while charging the device to be charged, the adapter configured to transmit the microwave power from the exciter to the device to be charged, wherein the exciter and the adapter provide a mechanism to transfer microwave power that is terminated by the device to be charged, and wherein the exciter, the adapter, and the device to be charged create a structure that facilitates the transfer of microwave power to the device to be charged when the device to be charged is attached to the adapter, where the side of the device to be charged is external to the microwave power within the structure while charging the device to be charged.
