1. A method of pairing devices in an in vivo analyte monitoring environment, the method comprising:
- activating a sensor control device adapted for in vivo analyte sensing, wherein the sensor control device comprises a non-transitory memory that, prior to activation, has a token stored thereon;
communicating the token to a second reader device;
sending, by the second reader device, a first communication comprising the token to the sensor control device after the sensor control device has already communicated with a first reader device;
if the token is valid for the sensor control device, then sending, by the sensor control device, data indicative of a sensed analyte level to the second reader device and displaying the sensed analyte level on a display of the second reader device; and
if the token is not valid for the sensor control device, then sending, by the sensor control device, a communication to the second reader device that indicates that the token is not valid.
