1. A method comprising:

  • selecting, by a processor, a first provisioning server from a plurality of provisioning servers in view of an amount of provisioning activity performed by the first provisioning server, wherein the first provisioning server is a physical machine to provide a first software provisioning service to a first set of physical target machines;

    obtaining, by the processor, metadata defining a configuration of the first provisioning server; and

    modifying, by the processor, a configuration of a second provisioning server in view of the metadata defining the configuration of the first provisioning server, and an inventory of provisioning objects comprising at least one of a virtual machine (VM) or data pertaining to installation of the VM, wherein the modifying comprises cloning the VM, and wherein the second provisioning server is a physical machine to provide a second software provisioning service to a second set of physical target machines.
