Abstract

An improved method for providing checkpoint background checks is described herein. In one embodiment, the pass control method can comprise collecting data related to the identity of a visitor with a checkpoint computer, transferring the data to a pass control server, querying one or more member profiles using the data, and returning a message to the checkpoint computer. In this method, the member profiles can comprise identity information and one or more flags. The flags can be related to an outcome of a previously performed background check performed using the identity information. The message returned to the checkpoint computer can be related to the flags within any of the member profiles comprising identity information that matches the data.

Claims

1. A pass control method, comprising:

establishing a profile relating to a visitor, said profile initially comprising identity information obtained from a pre-existing identification card, wherein the identification card is a government ID;

using the identity information from the government ID to perform an initial background check in order to acquire military information;

storing initial background check results in said profile;

using the identity information from the government ID to perform a second background check after said initial background check in order to find civilian information on a public records database, said second background check not in response to any entry request into a secured area by said visitor;

updating said profile based on second background check results;

querying said profile in response to a request for entry by said visitor, using data collected from said visitor, said data related to the identity of said visitor; and

sending to a checkpoint computer one or more flags related to said second background check results.

2. The method of claim 1 further comprising the step validating a pass into said secured area based on said one or more flags sent to said checkpoint computer.

3. The method of claim 2 wherein said secured area is a military installation.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein said identity information is entered by keying-in said data on said checkpoint computer.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein said identity information is collected from the pre-existing identification card using a card reader.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein said previously performed background check, determines one or more matching query results from one or more public record databases and said identity information.

7. The method of claim 1 wherein the pre-existing identification card is a driver'"'"'s license and said identity information comprises information from the driver'"'"'s license.

8. The method of claim 1 wherein the pre-existing identification card is a social security card and said identity information comprises information from the social security card.

9. The method of claim 1 wherein the pre-existing identification card is a passport and said identity information comprises information from the passport.

10. The method of claim 1 wherein the pre-existing identification card is a military identification card and said identity information comprises information from the military identification card.

11. The method of claim 6 wherein said public record databases comprises the National Criminal Information Center database.

12. The method of claim 6 wherein said public record databases comprises the Criminal Justice Information Services database.

13. The method of claim 6 wherein said public record databases comprise state warrant databases and local warrant databases.

14. The method of claim 10 wherein said outcome are said matching query results from a military record server and said identity information.

15. The method of claim 14 wherein said military record server comprises military citation and driving record information and military installation entry privilege information.

16. The method of claim 1 wherein said background check comprises checking for outstanding warrants.

17. The method of claim 1 wherein said background check comprises checking for known terrorists and suspected terrorists.

18. The method of claim 1 wherein said background check comprises checking for suspensions and cancellations of installation entry or driving privileges.

19. A non-transient computer readable storage medium having a computer readable program code embodied therein, wherein the computer readable program code is adapted to be executed to implement the method of claim 1.

20. The method of claim 1 wherein said second background check is one of a plurality of periodically performed background checks performed after said initial background check.

21. The method of claim 1 wherein said second background check is a randomly performed background check performed after said initial background check.

22. The method of claim 1 wherein the initial background check is performed by querying a public record database using the identity information from the identification card.

23. The method of claim 1, wherein the military information is military installation entry or driving privilege revocation.

24. The method of claim 1, wherein the civilian information is criminal record information.
