Abstract

Portable wagering media may be utilized to alter play of wagering games.

Claims

1. A gaming table comprising:

a game play area configured to facilitate a play of a game utilizing a plurality of physical game components;

a plurality of betting areas each configured to be associated with a wager amount placed in association with the play of the game; and

a controller programmed to;

enable an application of a game play upgrade in association with the play of the game, said game play upgrade being associated with data stored in association with a cellular phone,

responsive to the application of the game play upgrade being received, alter at least one attribute of the play of the game, wherein at least one of a game outcome for the play of the game and an award associated with the game outcome for the play of the game is based, at least in part, on the at least one altered attribute, and

if no application of the game play upgrade is received, not alter any attribute of the play of the game.

2. The gaming table of claim 1, wherein the game play upgrade is associated with the wager amount placed on the play of the game.

3. The gaming table of claim 1, wherein the game play upgrade is associated with a modification of an attribute of at least one of the physical game components.

4. The gaming table of claim 1, wherein responsive to the application of the game play upgrade being received, the controller is programmed to alter the at least one attribute for a duration selected from the group consisting of:

a quantity of plays of the game, a length of time, and a designated time period.

5. The gaming table of claim 1, wherein responsive to the application of the game play upgrade being received, the controller is programmed to utilize a different paytable than a paytable utilized if the application of the game play upgrade is not received.

6. The gaming table of claim 1, wherein responsive to the application of the game play upgrade being received, the controller is programmed to enable a different wager amount to be placed than the placed wager amount.

7. The gaming table of claim 1, wherein a plurality of game play upgrades are each associated with data stored in association with the cellular phone and the controller is programmed to enable an application of at least one of the plurality of stored game play upgrades.

8. The gaming table of claim 1, wherein the controller is programmed to enable a purchase of the game play upgrade.

9. The gaming table of claim 1, which includes at least one input device configured to operate with the controller and at least one display device configured to operate with the controller.

10. The gaming table of claim 1, wherein at least one of the game outcome and any award associated with the game outcome includes at least one of:

an amount of monetary credits and an amount of non-monetary credits.

11. A method of operating a gaming table, said method comprising:

enabling an application of a game play upgrade in association with a play of a game, said game play upgrade being associated with data stored in association with a cellular phone, wherein said play of the game is facilitated by a game play area of the gaming table which utilizes a plurality of physical game components, and the play of the game is associated with a wager amount placed at at least one of a plurality of betting areas of the gaming table,

responsive to the application of the game play upgrade being received, causing a controller to alter at least one attribute of the play of the game, wherein at least one of a game outcome for the play of the game and an award associated with the game outcome for the play of the game is based, at least in part, on the at least one altered attribute, and

if no application of the game play upgrade is received, not altering any attribute of the play of the game.

12. The method of claim 11, wherein the game play upgrade is associated with the wager amount placed on the play of the game.

13. The method of claim 11, wherein the game play upgrade is associated with a modification of an attribute of at least one of the physical game components.

14. The method of claim 11, which includes, responsive to the application of the game play upgrade being received, causing the controller to alter the at least one attribute for a duration selected from the group consisting of:

a quantity of plays of the game, a length of time, and a designated time period.

15. The method of claim 11, which includes, responsive to the application of the game play upgrade being received, causing the controller to utilize a different paytable than a paytable utilized if the application of the game play upgrade is not received.

16. The method of claim 11, which includes, responsive to the application of the game play upgrade being received, enabling a different wager amount to be placed than the placed wager amount.

17. The method of claim 11, wherein a plurality of game play upgrades are each associated with data stored in association with the cellular phone and which includes enabling an application of at least one of the plurality of stored game play upgrades.

18. The method of claim 11, which includes enabling a purchase of the game play upgrade.

19. The method of claim 11, wherein at least one of the game outcome and any award associated with the game outcome includes at least one of:

an amount of monetary credits and an amount of non-monetary credits.

20. A gaming server comprising:

a controller; and

a memory device which stores a plurality of instructions which, when executed by the controller, cause the controller to;

enable an application of a game play upgrade in association with a play of a game, said game play upgrade being associated with data stored in association with a cellular phone, wherein said play of the game is facilitated by a game play area of a gaming table which utilizes a plurality of physical game components, and the play of the game is associated with a wager amount placed at at least one of a plurality of betting areas of the gaming table,

responsive to the application of the game play upgrade being received, alter at least one attribute of the play of the game, wherein at least one of a game outcome for the play of the game and an award associated with the game outcome for the play of the game is based, at least in part, on the at least one altered attribute, and

if no application of the game play upgrade is received, not alter any attribute of the play of the game.

21. The gaming server of claim 20, wherein the game play upgrade is associated with the wager amount placed on the play of the game.

22. The gaming server of claim 20, wherein the game play upgrade is associated with a modification of an attribute of at least one of the physical game components.

23. The gaming server of claim 20, wherein when executed by the controller in response to the application of the game play upgrade being received, the plurality of instructions cause the controller to alter the at least one attribute for a duration selected from the group consisting of:

a quantity of plays of the game, a length of time, and a designated time period.

The gaming server of claim 20, wherein when executed by the controller in response to the application of the game play upgrade being received, the plurality of instructions cause the controller to utilize a different paytable than a paytable utilized if the application of the game play upgrade is not received.

25. The gaming server of claim 20, wherein when executed by the controller in response to the application of the game play upgrade being received, the plurality of instructions cause the controller to enable a different wager amount to be placed than the placed wager amount.

26. The gaming server of claim 20, wherein a plurality of game play upgrades are each associated with data stored in association with the cellular phone and when executed by the controller, the plurality of instructions cause the controller to enable an application of at least one of the plurality of stored game play upgrades.

27. The gaming server of claim 20, wherein when executed by the controller, the plurality of instructions cause the controller to enable a purchase of the game play upgrade.

28. The gaming server of claim 20, wherein at least one of the game outcome and any award associated with the game outcome includes at least one of:

an amount of monetary credits and an amount of non-monetary credits.
