1. A device, comprising:

  • an elongated core body having a length, a perimeter, and a hexagonal configuration defining six planar sides;

    at least six conductive elements positioned around the perimeter of the core body and extending a majority of the length of the core body, wherein a single conductive element of the at least six conductive elements appears on each of the six planar sides; and

    a detector coupled to the device at or near a distal end of the device and operably connected to one or more of the at least six conductive elements, the detector configured to obtain conductance data when the device is operated in a fluid environment and to transmit the conductance data along one or more of the at least six conductive elements;

    wherein the device, having first substantially or completely non-conductive coating positioned thereon, has an overall round cross-section and an overall diameter between approximately 0.013″ and

    approximately 0.050″
