Abstract

Systems, methods, and devices for wireless communication are disclosed. In one implementation an apparatus for wireless communications is provided. The apparatus includes a receiver configured to receive a wake-up message that is a portion of a wake-up sequence. In certain implementations, the apparatus further includes a processing system operably coupled to the receiver and configured to wake the receiver for a period of time. The period of time can exceed at least a transmission period of the wake-up sequence plus a transmission period of the wake-up message. The apparatus can further include a transmitter configured to transmit a message acknowledging receipt of the wake-up message.

Claims

1. An apparatus for wireless communications, comprising:

a processing system configured to generate a plurality of wake-up sequences to wake up a wireless node and a network allocation vector associated with the plurality of wake-up sequences, each wake-up sequence comprising at least one wake-up message configured to trigger the wireless node to determine whether to exit an ultra-low power (ULP) mode; and

an interface configured to output the plurality of wake-up sequences for transmission in accordance with the network allocation vector.

2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the interface is further configured to output the wake-up message for transmission using at least one of an on-off keying modulation or a frequency-shift keying modulation.

3. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the wake-up message is a paging message configured in a null data packet (NDP) format.

4. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the wake-up message comprises a station identifier, the station identifier identifying the wireless node.

5. The apparatus of claim 4, wherein the station identifier comprises a plurality of bits, one of the plurality of bits identifying the wireless node.

6. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the interface is further configured to output the at least one wake-up message for transmission during a transmission period of one of the plurality of wake-up sequences.

7. The apparatus of claim 6, wherein the at least one wake-up message comprises a sequence number, and wherein the sequence number indicates a number of the plurality of wake-up sequences to be sent after the transmission of the at least one wake-up message.

8. The apparatus of claim 7, wherein the sequence number is a reverse-ordered sequence number, the reverse-order sequence number identifying a number of the plurality of wake-up sequences to be sent after the transmission of the at least one wake-up message.

9. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the at least one wake-up message comprises a device class identifier, and wherein the interface is further configured to output the at least one wake-up message for transmission to the wireless node identified by the device class identifier.

10. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the at least one wake-up message comprises a message type identifier, and wherein the interface is further configured to output the at least one wake-up message for transmission to a station identified by the message type identifier.

11. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein at least one of the plurality of wake-up sequences comprises at least one confirmation message that includes a confirmation identifier, and wherein the confirmation identifier identifies the at least one of the plurality of wake-up sequences.

12. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the confirmation message is a page message that includes a page identifier, and wherein the confirmation identifier is the page identifier.

13. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the interface is further configured to receive a message acknowledging an end of a transmission of the plurality of wake-up sequences.

14. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the interface is further configured to receive a power-save poll message, the power-save poll message associated with the at least one wake-up message from the plurality of wake-up sequences.

15. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the interface is further configured to output the plurality of wake-up sequences for transmission to activate more than one receiver.

16. A method of wireless communication, the method comprising:

generating a plurality of wake-up sequences to wake up a wireless node, each of the plurality of wake-up sequences including at least one wake-up message configured to trigger the wireless node to determine whether to exit an ultra-low power (ULP) mode when the wireless node is in the ULP mode;

generating a network allocation vector associated with the plurality of wake-up sequences; and

outputting the plurality of wake-up sequences for transmission in accordance with the network allocation vector.

17. The method of claim 16, wherein the at least one wake-up message is configured for transmission using at least one of an on-off keying modulation or a frequency-shift keying modulation.

18. The method of claim 16, wherein the at least one wake-up message is a paging message configured in a null data packet (NDP) format.

19. The method of claim 16, wherein the at least one wake-up message comprises a station identifier, the method further comprising outputting the at least one wake-up message for transmission to at least one wireless node identified by the station identifier.

20. A wireless node for wireless communications, the apparatus comprising:

a processing system configured to generate a plurality of wake-up sequences to wake up a wireless node and a network allocation vector associated with the plurality of wake-up sequences, each wake-up sequence comprising at least one wake-up message configured to trigger the wireless node to determine whether to exit an ultra-low power (ULP) mode when the wireless node is in the ULP mode; and

a transmitter configured to transmit the plurality of wake-up sequences in accordance with the network allocation vector.

21. A method for wireless communications, the method comprising:

generating at least one paging message having a null data packet (NDP) format and a network allocation vector associated with the plurality of wake-up sequences, the at least one paging message being configured to trigger a wireless node to determine whether to exit an ultra-low power (ULP) mode if the wireless node is in the ULP mode; and

outputting the at least one paging message for transmission to the wireless node in accordance with the network allocation vector.

22. The method of claim 21, wherein the at least one paging message comprises a paged station identifier (P-ID) field configured to identify a paged wireless node.

23. The method of claim 21, wherein the NDP format specifies that the at least one paging message comprises a direction identification (DI) field configured to identify a direction of transmission of the at least one paging message.

24. The method of claim 23, wherein the direction of transmission of the at least one paging message identified by the DI field comprises an AP to non-AP station direction.

25. An apparatus for wireless communications, comprising:

a processing system configured to generate at least one paging message having a null data packet (NDP) format and a network allocation vector associated with the plurality of wake-up sequences, the at least one paging message being configured to trigger a wireless node to determine whether to exit an ultra-low power (ULP) mode if the wireless node is in the ULP mode; and

an interface configured to output the at least one paging message for transmission to the wireless node in accordance with the network allocation vector.

26. The apparatus of claim 25, wherein the at least one paging message comprises a paged station identifier (P-ID) field configured to identify a paged wireless node.

27. The apparatus of claim 25, wherein the NDP format specifies that the at least one paging message comprises a direction identification (DI) field configured to identify a direction of transmission of the at least one paging message.

28. The apparatus of claim 27, wherein the direction of transmission of the at least one paging message identified by the DI field comprises an AP to non-AP station direction.

29. A wireless node, comprising:

a processing system configured to generate at least one paging message having a null data packet (NDP) format and a network allocation vector associated with the plurality of wake-up sequences, the at least one paging message being configured to trigger a wireless node to determine whether to exit an ultra-low power (ULP) mode if the wireless node is in the ULP mode; and

a transmitter configured to transmit the at least one paging message to the wireless node in accordance with the network allocation vector.
