selecting a power level for operating a heat-assisted magnetic recording (HAMR) head to record data on a storage medium based on an attribute of the data; and writing the data to the storage medium while operating the HAMR head exclusively at the selected power level, wherein the data is written to top data tracks included in an interlaced magnetic recording scheme responsive to a determination that at least one of a write frequency and write recency is higher than a predefined threshold; and wherein the data is written to bottom data tracks included in the interlaced recording scheme responsive to a determination that at least one of write frequency and write recency is lower than a predefined threshold. - View Dependent Claims (7, 8, 9)
