1. A method used in a wireless communications system that facilitates identifying a set of two or more antenna ports, comprising:
- receiving a mapping information that includes a linear combination employed to transmit a reference signal representing the set of two or more antenna ports, wherein the linear combination is employed to group a plurality of more than four physical transmit antennas into virtual antennas, thereby allowing user equipment that are able to utilize only up to four transmit antenna ports to utilize the more than four physical transmit antennas;
receiving the reference signal representing the set of two or more antenna ports; and
decoding, based on the mapping information, the reference signal representing the set of two or more antenna ports in order to identify each antenna port of the set of two or more antenna ports.

Abstract
Systems and methods are disclosed that facilitate creating antenna ports to correspond to two or more groups of user equipment. The systems and methods can organize two or more groups of user equipment and signal to each of the two or more groups a respective antenna port. The systems and methods can further communicate mapping information, a reference signal, or delay related to a linear combination in order to identify antenna ports. Based on such communicated information, the reference signal can be decoded in order to identify each antenna port.
