1. A cueing device configured to alert a user to a perishable item associated with the cueing device based on one or more cueing parameters indicative of an urgency of the perishable item and a context for alerting the user to a status of the perishable item, the device comprising:
- a visual output configured to provide multiple levels of visual alert;
an input capable of receiving, from the user, an acknowledgement to an alert;
one or more sensors configured to detect environmental characteristics affecting the perishable item and to determine a user identification by identifying a user having an associated profile associated therewith; and
a wireless communication interface,wherein the visual alert is automatically programmed as a function of a type of the perishable item, feedback from at least one of the sensors, and historical information on user responses to prior alerts with respect to the type of the perishable item,and wherein the visual alert is adapted, based on the associated profile, to increase responsiveness to the visual alert by the identified user, the associated profile being updated based, at least in part, on monitored user responses to prior alerts.

One aspect of the application provides a cueing device. 8. A method of contextual cueing, comprising:

associating a time-sensitive object with a cueing device; receiving an input indicating a cueing parameter; determining cueing parameters indicative of an urgency of the time-sensitive object and an environmental context for alerting the user to a status of the time-sensitive object; determining a user identification by identifying a user, of a plurality of users, having an associated profile associated therewith; cueing the user based on the cueing parameters and environmental context; and adapting the cueing parameters for the time-sensitive object based on past user responses to cues, from each of the plurality of users, wherein the cueing parameters are adapted based on the associated profile, the associated profile being updated based, at least in part, on monitored user responses to prior alerts. - View Dependent Claims (9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25)

30. A system configured to provide contextual cueing, comprising:

a cueing device configured to determine a user identification by recognizing an identity and presence of a particular user having an associated profile associated therewith, and cue, in the presence of the particular user, attention to a time-sensitive object physically associated with the cueing device, using a plurality of varying alert signals, the signals based on a time until expiration of a time-sensitive object physically associated with the cueing device, a type of the time-sensitive object, feedback from at least one of the sensors, and historical information on user responses to prior alerts with respect to the type of the time-sensitive object, wherein the alert signals are adapted, based on the associated profile and one or more environmental factors associated with a location of the cueing device, the associated profile being updated based, at least in part, on monitored user responses to prior alerts; and a hub device configured to provide a relay link to a communications network for obtaining instructions to the cueing device for when, how, who, or what to cue, and under which environmental circumstances. - View Dependent Claims (31)
