1. A display device having an integrated capacitive sensing device, the display device comprising:

  • a plurality of sensor electrodes;

    a grid electrode comprising a plurality of grid segments coupled by routing traces and disposed in a common plane with the plurality of sensor electrodes, wherein a first grid segment of the plurality of grid segments is disposed between a first sensor electrode and a second sensor electrode of the plurality of sensor electrodes, and a second grid segment is disposed between the second sensor electrode and a third sensor electrode of the plurality of sensor electrodes, wherein each sensor electrode of the plurality of sensor electrodes and each grid segment of the plurality of grid segments comprises at least one common electrode configured to be driven for display updating and capacitive sensing; and

    a processing system coupled by routing traces to the sensor electrodes and the grid electrode, the processing system is configured to;

    modulate the first sensor electrode acquire first changes in absolute capacitance during a first time period, the second sensor electrode to acquire second changes in absolute capacitance during a second time period, and the third sensor electrode to acquire third changes in absolute capacitance during a third time period, wherein the first time period at least partially overlaps with the second time period; and

    drive the grid electrode with a shielding signal during the first, the second and the third time periods.
