Prosthetic capsular devices, systems, and methods
First Claim
1. A prosthetic capsular device for insertion into a natural capsular bag of an eye after removal of a cataract to contain at least one of an intraocular lens (IOL) and a technology device, the device comprising:
- a housing structure having a substantially discoid shape and capable of containing an IOL, the housing structure comprising;
an anterior circular wall, the anterior circular wall comprising an anterior central opening capable of allowing at least one of insertion, removal, and replacement of one or more of an intraocular lens and a technology device, wherein the anterior central opening is in fluid communication with a natural capsular bag of an eye upon insertion into the natural capsular bag, wherein the anterior circular wall is substantially flat;
a posterior circular wall opposite the anterior circular wall, the posterior circular wall comprising a posterior central opening configured to receive a refractive surface, wherein the posterior circular wall is substantially flat;
curvilinear, solid, and continuous lateral sides extending between the anterior circular wall and the posterior circular wall, wherein the lateral sides comprise at least one natural capsular bag-contacting surface,wherein the anterior circular wall, posterior circular wall, and lateral sides are integrally molded as a single-piece structure, wherein the anterior central opening and posterior central opening are formed during the molding process, wherein the anterior circular wall, posterior circular wall, and lateral sides substantially enclose the housing structure except at said anterior central opening and posterior central opening;
a cavity at least partially defined by the anterior circular wall, the posterior circular wall, and the lateral sides, the cavity capable of containing one or more of an intraocular lens and a technology device,wherein the housing structure is self-expandable when inserted into the natural capsular bag of the eye,wherein the housing structure does not comprise haptics; and
a distinct refractive surface configured to be attached to the posterior central opening of the housing structure in the natural capsular bag of the eye, wherein the distinct refractive surface is capable of being inserted separately from the housing structure into the natural capsular bag without being attached to the posterior central opening, wherein the distinct refractive surface substantially encloses the posterior central opening upon attachment, wherein the distinct refractive surface is removable from the housing structure after being attached to the posterior central opening in the natural capsular bag, andwherein the distinct refractive surface comprises at least one post configured to prevent the refractive surface from being detached from the posterior central opening, wherein the distinct refractive surface is attached to the posterior central opening using a friction fit.

Abstract
A prosthetic capsular device configured to be inserted in an eye includes a housing structure and a ring structure. The housing structure includes a first side, a second side opposite the first side, a third side, a fourth side opposite the third side, a posterior side including a refractive surface, an anterior side opposite the posterior side, and a longitudinal axis. The first side, the second side, the third side, the fourth side, the posterior side, and the anterior side at least partially define a cavity configured to contain an intraocular device (e.g., an IOL). The anterior side includes an opening. The ring structure includes a ring structure portion extending radially outward from proximate one of an end of the first side and an end of the second side.
