1. A metal wood-type golf club head comprising:

  • a body comprising a face plate positioned at a forward portion of the golf club head, a sole positioned at a bottom portion of the golf club head, a crown positioned at a top portion of the golf club head and a skirt positioned around a periphery of the golf club head between the sole and the crown;

    wherein the golf club head has a golf club head origin positioned on the face plate at an approximate geometric center of the face plate, the golf club head origin including an x-axis tangential to the face plate and generally parallel to the ground when the golf club head is in an address position, a y-axis generally perpendicular to the x-axis and generally parallel to the ground when the golf club head is in an address position, and a z-axis generally perpendicular to the x-axis and to the y-axis and generally perpendicular to the ground when the golf club head is in an address position, wherein a positive x-axis extends toward a golf club head heel, a positive y-axis extends toward a rearward portion of the golf club head, and a positive z-axis extends away from the ground with the golf club head in the address position, wherein at least a perimeter portion of the crown adjacent a top portion of the face plate and having an area that is at least 5% of a crown area has a bright, diffusely reflecting surface, and at least a top perimeter portion of the face plate has a dark, diffusely reflecting surface area, wherein at least the top perimeter portion of the face plate and the perimeter portion of the crown each has a gloss value less than about 60 gloss units, wherein the gloss value is associated with a reflected light at an angle of reflection of 60 degrees in response to an incident light directed to the top portion of the face plate or the perimeter portion of the crown at an angle of incidence of 60 degrees, and the top portion of the face plate and perimeter portion of the crown have a brightness difference of at least 40,and wherein, with an illumination source placed directly above the golf club head and a sensor placed so that an angle between an axis of illumination and a line from the golf club head to the sensor is about 41 degrees, a maximum reflected light intensity is detected at the sensor from a first golf club head location, and the reflected light intensity detected at the sensor from each of a plurality of points on the top portion of the golf club head that are situated more than one quarter of the distance and less than three quarters of the distance from the first golf club head location to a golf club head perimeter portion exceeds half the maximum reflected light intensity.
