1. A system for treating a patient having a lung with an airway, the system comprising:

  • a lung implant having an elongate length with a proximal and distal end for deployment within the airway of the patient, the lung implant transitionable between a delivery configuration and a deployed configuration, the deployed configuration configured to impart a force on the airway sufficient to bend an axis of the airway so as to locally compress lung tissue;

    a delivery catheter with a lumen for delivering the lung implant to the airway of the lung; and

    a loading cartridge comprising a lumen and configured to contain the lung implant for delivery into the delivery catheter, the loading cartridge constraining the implant to the delivery configuration and the lung implant configured to elastically recover toward a bent configuration to impart the force on the airway that bends the axis of the airway into a folded configuration; and

    a grasper configured to couple with a proximal portion of the lung implant to pull the lung implant into the loading cartridge and to push the lung implant from the loading cartridge into the delivery catheter for delivery into the airway.
