1. A system for treating a patient having a lung with an airway, the system comprising:
- a lung implant having an elongate length with a proximal and distal end for deployment within the airway of the patient, the lung implant transitionable between a delivery configuration and a deployed configuration, the deployed configuration configured to impart a force on the airway sufficient to bend an axis of the airway so as to locally compress lung tissue;
a delivery catheter with a lumen for delivering the lung implant to the airway of the lung; and
a loading cartridge comprising a lumen and configured to contain the lung implant for delivery into the delivery catheter, the loading cartridge constraining the implant to the delivery configuration and the lung implant configured to elastically recover toward a bent configuration to impart the force on the airway that bends the axis of the airway into a folded configuration; and
a grasper configured to couple with a proximal portion of the lung implant to pull the lung implant into the loading cartridge and to push the lung implant from the loading cartridge into the delivery catheter for delivery into the airway.

Abstract
A lung volume reduction system is disclosed comprising an implantable device adapted to be delivered to a lung airway of a patient in a delivery configuration and to change to a deployed configuration to bend the lung airway. The invention also discloses a method of bending a lung airway of a patient comprising inserting a device into the airway in a delivery configuration and bending the device into a deployed configuration, thereby bending the airway.

15. A method of treating a patient having a lung with an airway, the method comprising:
-
positioning a distal end of a delivery catheter to the airway of the lung; coupling a distal end of a loading cartridge to a proximal end of the delivery catheter so that a lumen of the loading cartridge and a lumen of the delivery catheter form a continuous lumen, and loading the lung implant in the loading cartridge prior to coupling the loading cartridge to the delivery catheter, wherein the loading of the lung implant comprises coupling the lung implant with a grasper and pulling the lung implant into the lumen of the loading cartridge with the grasper; pushing a lung implant loaded within the loading cartridge from within the lumen of the loading cartridge to the lumen of the delivery catheter; delivering the lung implant in a delivery configuration to the distal end of the delivery catheter; deploying the lung implant to a deployed configuration within the airway of the lung from the delivery configuration in the distal end of the delivery catheter; and wherein the pushing of the lung implant from the loading cartridge into the lumen of the delivery catheter comprises grasping a proximal portion of the lung implant with the grasper and pushing the lung implant into the lumen of the delivery catheter with the grasper; wherein the deployed configuration of the lung implant within the airway bends the airway of the lung so as to locally compress lung tissue. - View Dependent Claims (16, 17, 18, 19)
