1. A method of assisting carrier access in a wireless communication system performed by a base station, which is configured to communicate data to and/or from at least two different types of terminal devices via a wireless access interface, the method comprising:

  • broadcasting synchronisation signaling on a first carrier of the wireless access interface in a format that allows the two different types of terminal devices to synchronize with the first carrier to begin a camp-on procedure;

    transmitting system information associated with a camp-on procedure on the first carrier of the wireless access interface, whereinat least a portion of the system information indicates to a first terminal device of the two different types of terminal devices whether the first terminal device is allowed to camp-on the first carrier.
