1. A Brake Traction Control System (BTCS) for an off-road type vehicle operable in one of a two-wheel drive mode (2WD) and a four-wheel drive mode (4WD) comprising:

  • a 2WD/4WD switch adapted to switch a drive mode of the vehicle between a two-wheel drive mode (2WD) and a four-wheel drive mode (4WD), the switch configured to be manually activated by an associated vehicle operator; and

a control unit in signal communication with the 2WD/4WD switch, the control unit operable to activate the BTCS only if the drive mode is switched to the four-wheel drive mode and predetermined vehicle operating conditions relating to engine throttle position or opening and wheel speed are subsequently satisfied, wherein the control unit is in signal communication with a throttle position sensor for detecting engine throttle position or opening and with left and right wheel speed sensors for detecting wheel speed for left wheels and right wheels, wherein in the four-wheel drive mode the control unit is operable to activate the BTCS only if the detected throttle position or opening is greater than or equal to a predetermined throttle position or opening and a wheel speed delta between the left wheels and right wheels is greater than a target wheel speed delta setting for the vehicle.
