1. A method of reducing signaling during link setup in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:

  • receiving, by an access point, one or more configuration messages indicating that the access point is assigned to a first and second network domain, each of the first and second network domains having first and second network domain identifiers, each network domain identifying a logical grouping of the access point with at least one other access point, each of the grouped access points in the network domain configured to perform a common network service;

    transmitting, over a wireless network, the first and second network domain identifiers in a message from the access point, wherein the message indicates whether new associations are being accepted for each of the respective common network services;

    receiving from a station, at the access point from the wireless network, an access request message for establishing the network service associated with at least one of the transmitted network domain identifiers, wherein the access request message comprises a third network domain identifier associated with a plurality of network services, the third network domain identifier being different than the first and second network domain identifiers and comprising a sequence of bits based on the first network domain identifier or the second network domain identifier;

    determining, at the access point, whether the third network domain identifier is associated with the access point; and

    associating with the station in response to the determining.
